Rockville Honored with Three Keep Montgomery Beautiful Awards
ROCKVILLE, MD, October 24, 2011 - The Montgomery County Department of Transportation recognized the City of Rockville recently during the 25th annual Keep Montgomery County Beautiful Program.
The City of Rockville received three "Awards of Excellence" in the category of Cityscape, Level II. The three Rockville projects to earn the distinction are the College Gardens Park, Veirs Mill Road Landscape Enhancements and The Ponds at Fallsgrove.
The College Garden Park Stormwater Management Project took an innovative approach to reducing polluted stormwater runoff and improving Maryland's streams and watersheds, while providing a renovated park that serves as the centerpiece to the College Gardens community.
The Veirs Mill Road Landscape Enhancements project improved the streetscape near Twinbrook Shopping Center. The project included installing new sidewalks, brick paver borders in the median, street trees and other plantings.
The Ponds at Fallsgrove project is a beautification project where a landscaping plan was designed around two stormwater ponds at Shady Grove and Darnestown roads. The plan included installing benches, trees and other plantings.
The Keep Montgomery County Beautiful program was started in 1983. It encompasses a series of initiatives designed to maintain the county's high quality environment, especially in connection with the Department of Transportation.
