Junior Achievement Greater Washington Futures - February 2011
Financial Literacy | Work Readiness | Entrepreneurship | Greater Washington Futures | | | | | | February 2011 | DONATE | VOLUNTEER | myJA.org | | | | | | | | | | Ed Grenier | | | President and CEO Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area | | | When Greater Washington is hit by a blizzard, why are food supplies scarcer in grocery stores? Who pays the workers that clear the snow from the roads? Who is responsible for restoring services? While these economic questions address fundamental aspects of our lives, a school's regular curriculum may not provide the answers to them – but Junior Achievement's programs do. In middle school courses on personal budgeting, students can consider how a blizzard affects their heating bills or home improvement expenses. In high school courses, they might examine the blizzard's long-term impact on consumer spending, or on trade imbalances. At every grade level, Junior Achievement's programs teach students the economics of everyday life, whether it's snowing or sunny. Please help spread these valuable lessons by making a donation or volunteering in a classroom this winter. As always, your support makes our work possible. Thank you. | | Inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy | | Junior Achievement Students Ring NASDAQ Closing Bell On January 19, Junior Achievement students rang the NASDAQ Stock Market closing bell to celebrate the unveiling of JA's new Digital Program Strategy.
