Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are now investigating a collision involving a pedestrian that occurred yesterday morning on Bel Pre Road at Connecticut Avenue. After the collision the victim was transported to Suburban Hospital for treatment. He died yesterday evening.

At approximately 8:32 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the report of a struck pedestrian. The initial investigation determined that the victim, Mohammad Fartash, age 85, from the 14500 block of Homecrest Road in Silver Spring, was crossing Bel Pre Road in the crosswalk. Vincent George Dixon, age 52, from the 14100 block of Pear Tree Lane in Silver Spring was driving a 2002 Acura. He had stopped for a red light on northbound Connecticut Avenue and was preparing to turn left onto westbound Bel Pre Road. When the light turned green, he turned and collided with the pedestrian.

Dixon was not injured and remained at the scene. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not already spoken to officers is asked to call CRU detectives at 301-840-2435. The investigation is continuing.
