The Montgomery County Police Department is asking for your help in identifying a vehicle involved in a pedestrian hit and run on September 25 in the Piney Branch area of Silver Spring. The 22-year old female victim remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Vehicle information is presented in English and in Spanish.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division have been investigating the report of sexual abuse by a soccer coach for the Real Maryland FC Soccer Club. Roger Misael Fernandez was also a volunteer with the Northwood High School soccer team. Detectives would like to hear from anyone who has knowledge of any inappropriate contact by Fernandez with a juvenile

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is equipping its largest transmission mains with a sophisticated Acoustic Fiber Optics (AFO) system. The state-of-the-art technology is “live” in the 66-inch Pre-stressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) that runs along River Road in Bethesda and Potomac, allowing WSSC to constantly monitor the structural integrity of the pipe. The included video of the AFO installation was shot inside the 66-inch water main that runs under River Road.

Several major new transportation laws went into effect on October 1:

A ban on the use of cell phones without a hands free device. This includes sending and receiving text messages.

A new “move over” law requires drivers approaching from the rear an emergency vehicle using visual signals while stopped on a highway to, if possible, make a lane change into an available lane not immediately adjacent to the emergency vehicle.
