Maryland Career & Technology Student Organization Wins
20 Medals at National Leadership and Skills Conference

61 SkillsUSA Maryland’s competitors finish in national “Top Ten”

Two Montgomery County Students Among the Winners

BALTIMORE, MD (July 6, 2010) – Maryland’s SkillsUSA delegation brought home 20 medals from the recent 46th Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Missouri in June.

A team of the state’s most talented Career and Technology Education (CTE) high school students showcased their skills in 85 career and technical competitions. More than half of Maryland’s competitors finished in the national top ten. Demonstrating exemplary CTE training, Maryland students challenged 5,600 other student champions from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

Maryland students in Crime Scene Investigation, Electronics Technology, Industrial Motor Control, Mobile Electronics Installation, Preschool Teaching Assistant, and Quiz Bowl are officially among the best in the nation, returning with gold medals. Silver medals were awarded to students in Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Medical Math, and Technical Drafting. Bronze medals were awarded in Dental Assisting, Major Appliance Technology and Technical Computer Applications.
