Silver Spring Death Investigated as Homicide an Online TipUpdated Information See the 2010 Montgomery County Homicide Map Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of a 25-year-old male who was assaulted in Silver Spring last night. At approximately 8:31 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 3rd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded for a shooting that had just occurred in the area of Georgia and Dexter Avenues. Upon arrival they found the victim suffering from a trauma. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Hamilton Luis Rabanales of the 2100 block of Dexter Avenue in Silver Spring. Preliminary investigation revealed that just before 8:30 p.m. last night, Rabanales was with a group of subjects outside a residence in the 10100 block of Georgia Avenue when he was assaulted and collapsed. Police and Fire/Rescue were then called. The circumstances that led to Hamilton Rabanales death are still under investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined after a completion of an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. Update Update Update Update Police Seek Public’s Help to Locate Silver Spring Homicide Suspect an Online TipUpdated Information Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are continuing to investigate the May 27, 2010, death of Hamilton Luis Rabanales, age 27, of the 2100 block of Dexter Avenue in Silver Spring. It is now believed that his real name is Hamington Luis Ravanales Orozco. Through the course of the investigation a suspect was developed and a warrant for first-degree murder has been obtained. The suspect was identified as Henry Chavez, age 28, of an unknown current address. He has a prior address in the 1600 block of Hobart Street in NW Washington, D.C., and is known to frequent both Silver Spring and Wheaton. He is described as a Hispanic male, 3’11” tall, and weighing 85 pounds. At approximately 8:31 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 3rd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded for a suspicious situation that had just occurred in the area of Georgia and Dexter Avenues. Upon arrival they found the victim, Ravanales Orozco, suffering from a trauma. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Update Update Update Update Suspect for May 2010 Homicide in Custody in Texas Updated Information Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section have been investigating the May 27, 2010, death of Hamington Luis Orozco, age 27, of the 2100 block of Dexter Avenue in Silver Spring. The victim was originally identified as Hamilton Luis Rabanales. The suspect responsible for this homicide is now in custody in Houston, Texas. The suspect developed was identified as Henry Chavez, age 28, of an unknown address. He was described as a Hispanic male, 3’11” tall, and weighing 85 pounds. Montgomery County Police detectives worked with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Marshals to try to locate Chavez. Through the course of the investigation it was learned that Chavez had fled to El Salvador. Local police worked with authorities there and Chavez, an American citizen, was arrested there on February 8. His custody was transferred to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Houston, Texas, on February 9. Today he waived his right to an extradition hearing and will be transported back to Montgomery County later this month. Once he arrives in the county the warrant will be served charging him with first-degree murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony crime. It was at approximately 8:31 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010, that 3rd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded for a suspicious situation that had just occurred in the area of Georgia and Dexter Avenues. Update Update Update Update Suspect for May 2010 Homicide Returned to Maryland Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section have been investigating the May 27, 2010, death of Hamington Luis Orozco, age 27, of the 2100 block of Dexter Avenue in Silver Spring. (The victim was originally identified as Hamilton Luis Rabanales.) The suspect responsible for this homicide, Henry Chavez, was located in El Salvador on February 8, 2011, and custody transferred to law enforcement in Texas, on February 9. On February 21, he was extradited back to Montgomery County and arrived here yesterday at 10:30 p.m. Early this morning, Chavez, age 28, of the 1600 block of Hobart Street, in N.W. Washington, D.C., was brought to the Central Processing Unit and charged with first-degree murder and the use of a handgun in the commission of a violent crime. Chavez is currently being held without bond. He is scheduled for a bond hearing tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the Rockville District Court. Chavez had been described as a Hispanic male, 3’11” tall, and weighing 85 pounds. Montgomery County Police detectives worked with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Marshals to try to locate Chavez.
