Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the death of a 25-year-old male who was assaulted in Silver Spring last night.

At approximately 8:31 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 3rd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded for a shooting that had just occurred in the area of Georgia and Dexter Avenues. Upon arrival they found the victim suffering from a trauma. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as Hamilton Luis Rabanales of the 2100 block of Dexter Avenue in Silver Spring.

Preliminary investigation revealed that just before 8:30 p.m. last night, Rabanales was with a group of subjects outside a residence in the 10100 block of Georgia Avenue when he was assaulted and collapsed. Police and Fire/Rescue were then called.

The circumstances that led to Hamilton Rabanales death are still under investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined after a completion of an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

Anyone who can provide information related to the death of Hamilton Rabanales is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Crimes Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment of the person(s) responsible for this felony crime.
