National Philharmonic Singers Present
"An Evening at the Opera"

North Bethesda, MD, April 8, 2010 – National Philharmonic Singers, under the direction of conductors Stan Engebretson and Victoria Gau, will present a free concert of operatic arias and choruses by Verdi, Mascagni, Copland, Gershwin and others on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 8 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 107 South Washington Street, Rockville, Maryland. Special guests include the Men's Choir of Landon School, directed by Tad Cavuoti; soprano Jennifer Jellings; tenor Jason Saffell; baritone Bryan Jackson and accompanist Theodore M. Guerrant.

National Philharmonic Singers is a chamber choir and one of several performing ensembles of the National Philharmonic. As such, it promotes works suited for smaller ensembles, whether with accompaniment or a cappella. Its repertoire ranges from 15th to 21st Centuries, and it often premiers new compositions by local composers. The group performs throughout the area but most often at Christ Episcopal Church.

Soprano Jennifer Jellings is a frequent soloist in opera, recital and oratorio. Ms. Jellings recently made her debut at Carnegie Hall as a first place winner in the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition. She has been a first place winner in the Mid-Atlantic NATS Divisional Competition, a semi- finalist in the Marie Crump Vocal Competition and the 2009 Irma M. Cooper Opera Columbus International Vocal Competition. Other highlights in Ms. Jellings career include a concert engagement at the White House and appearances with the Washington National Opera, the Summer Opera Theatre Company, the Alexandria Symphony, the New Dominion Chorale, the In-Series and Choralis.

Baritone Bryan Jackson has received rave reviews for his many roles in local opera productions. He has performed in Donizetti’s Maria Padilla with the Washington Concert Opera and Cinderella with the Opera Theater of Northern Virginia. Other operas include I Pagliacci; La Bohème; Rigoletto; Figaro; Hansel and Gretel, among many others.

Tenor Jason Saffell is a member of both the National Philharmonic Chorale and the NP Singers. He has performed as a soloist with area choruses and ensembles and is a student of Molly Donnelly, Professor of Music at Montgomery College.
