Looking for Volunteers to assist ESOL Instructor once a week!
Volunteers needed to serve as an Aide to ESOL Instructor on Wednesday evenings 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 pm at the Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center. Assistance needed beginning the second week of March until May 2010. Free Legal Advice Clinics
The Montgomery County Bar Foundation Pro Bono Program, in partnership with Eastern Montgomery Regional Services, provides free Legal Advice Consultations for low income residents on the first and second Thursdays’ of each month from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. The upcoming dates for the legal clinic are March 4th, 11th & April 1st and 8th. Engage Your Community Group in Earth Day This April - Now is a good time for community groups to plan group service projects around the time of Earth Day. While Earth Day is April 22nd, the Montgomery County Volunteer Center and other organizations celebrate Earth Day throughout the month of April. Get your nonprofit, school, religious, civic or other community group volunteering to improve the environment. Park, waterway, and neighborhood clean ups, painting and gardening are just a few ways groups can make a difference. Amnesty International Human Rights Art Festival - The first ever Amnesty International Human Rights Art Festival will be held April 23-25, 2010 in downtown Silver Spring. The festival will showcase the work of 250 artists from 40 nations. The event will take place over 3 days in 40 venues throughout the Arts and Entertainment District. All of the art concerns human rights and social transformation issues. Included are a film festival, theater festival, dance festival, music festival, 10 advocacy groups running "Festivals within the Festival," indoor and outdoor art installations, and dozens of workshops, book readings, art exhibits, performance art and other activities. As the weather warms up and Spring approaches, the activities of “woodchucks” increases. The group of individuals described as “woodchucks” are scam artists who generally target our elderly residents. For more information click here
