Detectives Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting Updated Information Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon outside a residence in the 14000 block of Indian Run Drive in Darnestown. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Montgomery County Police Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call for a suspicious situation at approximately 3:38 p.m. The homeowner became concerned when he saw an unknown dark-colored vehicle coming up his long private driveway. When the suspect was confronted by the homeowner, the suspect tried to turn his car around. The rear tires of the vehicle, a very dark green 2000 Cadillac Catera, turned off of the paved driveway and became stuck in the wet grass. From witness statements it was learned that when an officer arrived at the scene, the suspect charged and then attacked the officer who was approaching on foot. The officer fired his service weapon more than once striking the suspect. Officers immediately performed life-saving efforts on the adult male suspect. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. The officer did not require immediate medical treatment. The circumstances surrounding why this individual was in this area and why he attacked an officer remain under investigation. As is standard procedure, the officer has been placed on critical incident paid administrative leave while the investigation is being conducted. The officer is identified as Kurt Colson. He has been an officer with the department for a little over two years. He is assigned to the 5th District Police Station in Germantown as an evening shift patrol officer. The suspect has been identified as Ingham “Andre” DeFreitas, age 31, of the 13700 block of Monarch Vista Drive in Germantown. Anyone who has any information in reference to this incident is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Last edited by Howard Hartman; 09-29-2009 at 07:10 PM. |
