Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Good Hope Road near Twigg Road early this morning.

On today’s date at approximately 1:46 a.m., police from the 4th District and fire/rescue personnel responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the 14700 block of Good Hope Road in the greater Colesville area of Silver Spring. Upon arrival they found a vehicle off the road with 5 occupants.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a tan 2000 Honda Civic with Maryland tags was traveling from the direction of New Hampshire Avenue toward Briggs Chaney Road. Near the intersection of Good Hope Road and Twigg Road, the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a utility pole on the right side of the roadway. The adult male driver was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver has been identified as Genry Obdulio Vasquez Gonzalez, 28 years old, of the 300 block of Thomas Drive in Laurel. He was wearing his seatbelt.

The four passengers were transported to two area hospitals and treated for non-life threatening injuries. They have been identified as Caesar Marin, 34 years old, of Silver Spring and Abelardo Marin Najera, 25 years old, of Laurel. They were both transported to Washington Hospital Center. The remaining passengers, Edy Alberto Ramirez Argueta, 22 years old, of an unknown address and Oscar Rene Salazar Diaz, 20 years old, of Laurel, were both transported to Suburban Hospital. Seatbelt use by the passengers remains under investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435. The investigation is continuing.
