Bike to Work Day 2009 Friday morning, May 15, 2009 (Times vary by location) Bike to Work Day 2009, a free annual event co-sponsored by Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA). The event promotes bicycling as an alternative to drive-alone commuting and is held each year to cap off National Bike to Work Week. Thousands of area commuters are expected to participate in Bike to Work Day 2009, a celebration of bicycling as a healthy, low-cost, and environmentally friendly way to get to work. Twenty-six “pit stops” will be set up throughout the region, featuring entertainment, raffle prizes, food, and drink. Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) co-sponsor the annual event to encourage bicycling as an alternative commuting option to solo driving. Bike to Work Day is a free event and open to all area commuters. Free t-shirts will be available for the first 7,500 registrants who arrive at their chosen pit stop. For additional information on Bike To Work Day 2009 including event locations and registration details, visit the WABA website below. Twenty-six local governments and area employers will host “pit stop” locations throughout the region: Downtown Washington D.C. (Freedom Plaza and Nationals Park), Maryland: Bethesda, Bowie (2), College Park, Frederick, Hyattsville, Indian Head, National Institutes of Health, North Bethesda, Rockville (2), Silver Spring, and White Oak. Virginia: Alexandria, Crystal City, Fairfax, Fairfax City, Leesburg, Reston, Rosslyn, Springfield, Sterling, Tysons Corner and Vienna.
