Upcoming Black History Documentary to be Previewed, Discussed at Long Branch Library

A special preview and discussion of an upcoming black history documentary entitled “Patrick & Me” will be held at the Long Branch Library on Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. The library is located at 8800 Garland Ave., Silver Spring.

The presentation is based on a film by Menare Foundation director Anthony Cohen, a fourth generation descendant of a runaway slave. The documnetary recounts the gripping tale of his ancestor Patrick Sneed who fled from bondage in 1849. Drawing from his forebear’s 1856 account, Cohen carefully reconstructs the amazing story of the Georgia slave who was captured under the Fugitive Slave Act and later went on to fight in the American Civil War.

Cohen highlights the path he traced in the fall of 2007 as he uncovered Sneed's route by foot, boat and rail from Savannah, Georgia to Canada.

The program features a powerpoint presentation, the new trailer for the film and a discussion by the director.
