Red and Orange Lines This Weekend
Red and Orange Line riders should add at
least 20 to 30 minutes to their weekend travel
For immediate release: October 1, 2009
Track maintenance on the Red and Orange lines this weekend will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track. Customers should add at least 20 to 30 minutes of time to their trips.
As a reminder, the Metrorail system will open at 6 a.m., on Sunday, Oct. 4 for the US Army 10-miler race. Race participants and spectators using the Red and Orange lines in the locations mentioned below should give themselves additional time en route to the race.
Orange Line Track Maintenance
Metrorail customers traveling between the Cheverly and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace crossties and conduct maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, to 10 a.m., on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Red Line Track Maintenance
Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks, and make tunnel and aerial structure repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Oct. 4.
