3rd District Weekly Crime Summary - May 13, 2009 Reporting Period: April 27, 2009 to May 5, 2009
*excludes stolen tags G1 Beat: • Thefts from Vehicles: Between Tuesday 4/28 and Saturday 5/2, there were 13 thefts from vehicles, 10 of which occurred at parking garages/lots. . The times varied in the incidents. In twelve of the incidents, the suspects broke or pried a window to enter. A handgun was taken in one of the incidents. GPS systems, computers and stereo equipment were the items of choice in 10 of the incidents. The thefts occurred at the following streets and parking garages/lots: 8000 block of Takoma Avenue, 8100 block of Bonaire Court, and the 700 block of Ritchie Avenue. The parking lot/garage locations are: 8616 Cameron Street, two events at 8530 Cameron Street, 8450 Colesville Road, three events at 1101 Bonifant Road, two events at 1000 Spring Street, and 8598 Dixon Avenue. ![]() G2 Beat: • A residential burglary occurred on Thursday, 4/30 between 6:30 a.m. and 6:50 p.m. in the 8100 block of Park Crest Drive in Silver Spring. Forced entry and property taken. • A residential burglary occurred on Monday, 5/4 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the 1700 block of Highland Drive in Silver Spring. Forced entry and property taken. H1 Beat: • A strong-arm robbery occurred in the area of the 800 block of Buckingham Drive in Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/29 at 7:50 p.m. An adult female was walking when the male suspect took property from the victim, and pushed her to the ground, and fled on foot. Suspect: H/M 25-35 years, 5’ to 5’2”, 160-180 lbs. • An armed robbery occurred in the area of Glenville Road and University Boulevard in Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/29 at 11:13 p.m. An adult male was approached by two suspects; one armed with a gun. He was assaulted by a second suspect and his property was taken. Both fled on foot. Suspects: (2) B/M 20-24 years, 5’ tall, one armed with a gun • An armed robbery occurred in front of 8800 Bradford Road, Silver Spring on Friday, 5/1 at 2:08 a.m. An adult male was struck by the male suspect who took his property. The suspect implied he had a gun and the victim fled on foot. Police responded and apprehended the adult male suspect in the area. • A sexual assault occurred in the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring on Thursday, 4/30 at approximately 3:00 p.m. An adult female walking in her apartment building was followed by the suspect who engaged her in conversation. The suspect touched the victim in appropriately and then fled on foot towards a wooded area. Suspect: B/M 20-30 years, 6”, 140-160 lbs., white t-shirt, boots. H2 Beat: • A residential burglary occurred on Thursday, 4/30 between 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the 10100 block of Avenel Garden Lane in Hillandale. Forced entry and property taken. • A residential burglary occurred between 9:00 p.m. Saturday, 5/2 and 7:00 a.m. Sunday, 5/3 in the 400 block of Southwest Drive, Silver Spring. Forced entry and property taken from a shed. • A residential burglary occurred on Sunday, 5/3 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:46 p.m. in the 1000 block of Cresthaven Drive, Silver Spring. Forced entry, property taken • Thefts from Vehicles: Between Tuesday, 4/28 and Monday, 5/4, twenty-three vehicles were broken into. Thirteen of these incidents occurred overnight between Tuesday, 4/28 and Wednesday, 4/29 in the Burnt Mills area. Vehicle windows were broken/pried and computer equipment, electronic equipment and cash were taken. ![]() I1 Beat: • A rape occurred in the restroom of the Popeye’s at 11311 Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring on Monday, 5/4 between 5:00 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. The suspect, who harassed her outside the store, followed her into the bathroom and raped her. The suspect fled when another female entered the restroom. The victim believes a friend of hers may know the suspect. • An armed robbery occurred at the Chevy Chase Bank, 11261 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring on Wednesday, 4/29 at 10:22 a.m. A Dunbar Armored delivery driver was robbed as he entered the bank. The suspect, armed with a gun, approached the driver and took cash. The suspect fled on foot. Suspect: B/M 30-35 years, 6” 150 lbs., wearing a baseball cap, black hoodie, black jacket, and gloves. • An armed robbery occurred in the area of 11100 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring on Saturday, 5/2 at 4:00 a.m. An adult male was walking when three suspects armed with knives, approached the victim, demanded cash, and struck the victim on the side of his head with an unknown object. The suspects then removed cash and the victim’s property, and fled on foot. Suspects: H/M, 15-18 years, mole on left cheek, armed with a knife (4) B/M’s 15-18 two armed with knives • A residential burglary occurred on Wednesday, 4/29 at 1:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Brantford Ave in Silver Spring. Forced entry, property taken. Suspect: (2) H/M’s 17-25 years Vehicle: Green Honda • A residential burglary occurred on Wednesday, 4/29 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the 600 block of Cannon Road, Silver Spring. Forced entry and property taken • A residential burglary occurred on Monday, 5/4 between noon and 3:45 p.m. in the 12700 block of Theresa Drive, Silver Spring. Forced entry and property taken. • A residential burglary occurred on Monday, 5/4 between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the 1500 block of Heather Hollow Circle, Silver Spring. Forced entry, property taken. Suspects: (2) B/M’s 5’11-6’1”; Vehicle: Gold Dodge with “large” tires • An attempted commercial burglary occurred at the Noodle King Restaurant, 12705 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, between 10:00 p.m. Thursday, 4/30 and 10:30 a.m. Friday, 5/1. An attempt was made to force entry but was unsuccessful. Nothing taken. • Thefts from Vehicles: During the overnight hours between Tuesday, 4/28 and Wednesday, 4/29, four vehicles were broken into and property taken. I2 Beat: • A residential burglary occurred on Tuesday, 4/28 between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the 13900 block of Castle Boulevard, Silver Spring. Forced entry and property taken. • A residential burglary occurred on Monday, 5/4 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. in the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard in Silver Spring. Forced entry and property taken. • A Commercial Burglary occurred at Beilers Hardware 15628 Columbia Pike in Burtonsville between 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, 4/29 and 8:30 a.m. Thursday, 4/30. Forced entry and property taken. • A commercial burglary occurred at Fehr’s Nursery, 4340 Sandy Spring Road in Burtonsville on Monday, 4/27 at approximately 3:36 a.m. The suspect forced entry and property was taken.
