Don't Miss "An American Maid"

F. Scott TheatreSousa's "An American Maid" will be presented by Victorian Lyric Opera Company. In this work, Sousa combines European opera traditions with elements drawn from Gilbert and Sullivan and American popular music, even early ragtime. And don't forget those Sousa marches! Sept. 7, 8, at 8 p.m. Sept. 9, at 2 p.m.

Register to Vote at the City's Voter Van

Rockville residents are encouraged to register to vote at a voter registration drive Saturday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The drive will take place with a van staffed by volunteers who will travel from neighborhood to neighborhood throughout Rockville.  

Exhibit dates are Sept. 9-Oct. 2. Meet the Artists and Opening Reception at 1:30-3:30 p.m., Sept. 9. Enjoy a Sunday Afternoon Concert featuring Barbara Martin at 2 p.m. Free. Glenview Mansion Art Gallery at Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive. 

Learn about Conservation Landscaping

Croydon Creek Join us at Croydon Creek Nature Center on Saturday, Sept. 9, 1-3 p.m. Learn how to make your lawn a greener, healthier place through the use of native plants and other landscaping techniques at this workshop. To register, email sphilbin@rockvillemd.gov. Free. 
Join author Barbara Glickman and photographer Valerie Brown for a presentation of photos of gardens and parks from our area. They will discuss landscape design features, the historical significance of the gardens and the landscape designers. Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

Hang Out Late On Friday Night

Pre-teens and teens, grades 3-6, have the community center all to themselves to play games in the gym, enjoy video games, dance and listen to music, make a craft, or just hang out with their friends. Refreshments will be sold. Space is limited to the first 100 registrations. Pre-registration is $7 residents and $10 non-residents. The fee at the door is $10 residents and $15 nonresidents beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Learn about Stink Bugs

Come to the Rockville Science Café on Tuesday, Sept. 18 and learn about "Stink Bugs." The event will be held at Branded '72, 387 Gude Road, 7-8 p.m. For more information contact Ruth Hanessian at 301-674-7884 or call the Rockville Science Center at 240-FUN-8111.

Rockville City Police Department officers and staff are hosting three free community meetings next week. The meetings are open to the public and are an opportunity for residents to learn more about the department and its activities, ask questions of law enforcement officials and get to know their local police officers.
